About Me
My name is Dr Elaine Adam. I am delighted to introduce you to Sauna Bothy, my mobile sauna business.
I have loved saunas my whole life. It really is my dream come true to be able to share my sauna cabin with you.
My sauna journey dates back to my PhD days at Newcastle University. My friends and I would visit Newcastle City Pool to enjoy a four-hour session. We would start off with a swim in the beautiful Victorian swimming pool, before heading downstairs to the Turkish Bath in the vaulted chambers below the swimming pool. Once there, we would enjoy the spa pool and steam room, before settling down for a long lounge in the canvas deckchairs. If we were feeling flush, we would treat ourselves to an aromatherapy massage, lying back on marble slabs, whilst our minds and bodies shed any tension.
My last trip to Canada, to beautiful British Columbia to visit my brother, introduced me to their “secret saunas” in the mountain forests. We would don snowshoes and load up a sledge with logs, kindling and a few cheeky beers. When we found the cabin nestled near a cliff in snow-covered forests, we would light the fire and then head off for a wander through the woods, as the sauna cabin heated up. On our return, the fire would be roaring and we would settle in to enjoy the heat, steam, and banter. Once our bodies were super hot, we’d nip out for a roll in the snow to cool off. Then we’d hop back in for another round of “contrast therapy” and maybe get creative writing poetry and limericks for our visitor book.
Last year, I started to explore the Scottish wild sauna scene. I have enjoyed sauna sessions at Elie Seaside Sauna in Fife, at Auna at the Kings in Cullen and at Seabiscuit in Aberdeen. At Elie I earned myself the nickname “Bucket Head”, as I just stuck my head in the zinc bucket to cool off - it was wonderful!
I am an adventurer, a Munroist (having just recently climbed all 282 Munros in Scotland), a rower, and a kayaker. I am a Coastguard Rescue Officer with the Cruden Bay Team. I am a Registrar. I am also a Social Scientist, having been a Lecturer, Resarch Fellow and Clinical Trial Manager with Aberdeen University. I understand the medical literature and research studies which demonstrate the physical and mental health benefits of thermotherapy, stimulating wellbeing.
I am delighted to welcome you to book a sauna session, to refresh and to rejuvenate with us. I am sure you will be glowing within when you do.
Why Sauna?
Step into Sauna Bothy and step out feeling your best as you take care of your body and your mind.
We cater for anyone who cares about living a long, healthy life. Sauna use is strongly supported by science, which finds that it helps individuals live a longer life in good health, free of chronic diseases and devoid of problems that come with ageing.
Sauna sessions are an act of self-love as you take time to look after the health of your heart, as it helps lower blood pressure, improve circulation and lower your chances of developing heart-related conditions.
Science supports the use of saunas to sweat out all of the toxins that our bodies are exposed to, as it helps boost the body’s natural detoxification process.
We promote glowing from within, as saunas are a healing practice where heat heals the body inside out by reducing inflammation and strengthening the immune system.
We offer an experience that not only cleanses your body but also clears your mind; after one session, the heat melts away your stress, boosts your mood and leaves you feeling refreshed and balanced. Research supports sauna therapy, as it contributes to good brain health and mental well-being.
The perfect place for relaxation and recovery, as the tranquil heat promotes muscle recovery and pain relief. A sauna is a soothing solution for anyone with muscle pain or sore joints, as the heat relaxes muscles and enhanced circulation brings oxygen and nutrients to sore or injured regions.
